Momentum Builds as Mosquito Neighbors Talk and Compare Notes Following Fire Board Meeting

Following the July Mosquito Fire Protection District Board meeting, one thing has become unmistakably clear: the community is paying attention—and speaking up.
Residents across Mosquito have taken to social media, neighborhood conversations, and direct outreach to better understand what is happening—or more accurately, what is not happening—with the critically needed Shared Services Agreement between Mosquito Fire Protection District and Garden Valley Fire Protection District.

The response has been consistent and unified. Community members are expressing deep frustration with a long-tenured leadership approach that many feel is out of step with the district's urgent needs.
For years, residents have watched as opportunities for progress have stalled, while service levels and organizational stability have declined. The current moment has only sharpened those concerns.
In a striking show of urgency, Mosquito residents have begun commenting directly on Garden Valley Fire Protection District’s social media channels, asking to be heard. These are not casual remarks; they reflect a community searching for accountability and for a path forward that prioritizes safety, sustainability, and collaboration.
There is also a growing recognition that this issue extends beyond district lines. Mosquito residents have expressed sincere appreciation—and, in many cases, apology—to regional partners including the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors, El Dorado LAFCO, Garden Valley Fire Protection District leadership and personnel, and the broader community. At its core, this moment is about more than a single agreement. It is about restoring trust, ensuring effective governance, and securing reliable fire and emergency services for every resident. Many in the community feel they currently lack a meaningful voice in decisions that directly impact their safety—and that must change.
That is why residents are taking the next step.
Mosquito community members are planning to attend the upcoming Garden Valley Fire Protection District Board Meeting on Tuesday, July 28 at 9:30 AM.
This meeting will include reporting on the Shared Services negotiation process and represents an important opportunity for transparency, understanding, and regional collaboration.
Attending in person is not just about observing—it is about showing up as a community, supporting our neighbors, and demonstrating that Mosquito residents are engaged, informed, and committed to a better path forward.
