County Supervisor Calls Out Mosquito Fire District Directors Over Misinformation, Delays

An El Dorado County official is publicly challenging Mosquito Fire Protection District leadership over what she says is misinformation being provided to the community about the proposed shared services agreement with Garden Valley Fire Protection District.
District 4 Supervisor Lori Parlin, who attended the August 13 meeting with Mosquito, Garden Valley, El Dorado County, and LAFCO representatives, says both districts had agreed to the terms of the agreement pending attorney review. She said Garden Valley was on track to bring the agreement to its board on August 25.
Instead, Parlin says the process was delayed when Mosquito Fire’s attorney reopened a point that had already been extensively discussed and rejected.
“This is the single reason that the agreement was not ready,” Parlin wrote in her public comment.
The message is clear: the shared services agreement was not stalled because the districts could not reach common ground. According to Parlin, it was delayed after Mosquito Fire representatives revisited settled issues during the legal-review process.
Attend the September 1 Meeting
At the next district board meeting—Tuesday, September 1, at 7:00 p.m.—Mosquito Fire District Director Maria Rodriguez has proposed removing one of the two current Mosquito Fire directors assigned to negotiate the shared services agreement with Garden Valley.
The proposal raises a central question for residents: if county and partner-agency representatives say an agreement was already within reach, why is the process continuing to move backward instead of forward?
