Jamae Lacey
Jamae is an El Dorado County Humane Society volunteer and disaster-response team member who supported animal rescue during the Caldor and Crozier fires. She is running to bring transparent, accountable leadership, strong preparedness, and sustainable public-safety solutions to Mosquito.
I am running for the Mosquito Fire Protection District Board to be a voice for the individuals in our community, increase transparency and accountability, and prioritize public safety and fiscal responsibility. I believe that our district has the potential to be organized, effective, and prepared. As a Board Member, I will focus my efforts on working collaboratively, enacting internal policy change, and putting our community’s best short-term *and* long-term interests first.
I have been a volunteer with the El Dorado County Humane Society since 2020. I learned about proper nonprofit governance, grants, funding, and CA law as a result of my time volunteering with EDCHS, while also participating in their disaster response team. I was on the small animal rescue team during the Caldor Fire (2021) and the Crozier Fire (2024). I learned during these emergencies that preparedness and communication save lives, and it will be my top priority to ensure our firefighters have the resources, planning, partnerships, and community support they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.
I believe the Shared Services Agreement is the only reasonable step forward for our community. While specific details have not been released, and therefore I will refrain from specific comment regarding policy, the initial proposal is reasonable and places us in the very capable hands of Chief Wes Norman and his team. As a Board Member, it would be a priority to be communicative, accommodating, and do everything in my power to ensure our community can get the resources it deserves under the leadership it needs.
Having not been in the meetings or received minutes from the meetings regarding the Shared Services Agreement, I cannot truthfully make any specific claims about deficiencies. The board members have not provided reasonable or clear updates regarding progress, which is a deficiency in and of itself. Additionally, the lack of decorum from board members in MFPD meetings regarding the Shared Services Agreement Team has been unacceptable and has not inspired confidence. I believe that all members, especially the ones who are the supposed representatives for this Agreement, should behave with respect, integrity, and transparency.
I see the first priority as joining the Shared Services Agreement, and then letting other matters like budget, funding, grants, etc., fall into place and handling those until a baseline is established. Once the department has settled, I believe additional bylaws and policies should be formalized for the Mosquito Fire Protection District Board, so future generations are not left to clean up messes without clear protocols. I think prioritizing our immediate needs and supporting our long-term goals is the only way to ensure our department runs efficiently for decades after we have gone.
I am running because I would be honored to be a representative and serve Mosquito with respect and pride. Our community is full of history, strong voices, and people who have worked passionately to move us forward. I believe I can honor the past while protecting our future.
